Running for Special Olympics Southern California athletes-TEAM SOSC :
Sponsor TEAM SOSC, anchored by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD), in the "Happiest Race on Earth," August 31, 2008, for Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) athletes. TEAM SOSC runners, joggers and walkers will race throughout Disneyland® Resort, Sleeping Beauty's Castle, and the City of Anaheim, all to raise funds for Special Olympics athletes.

Thousands will "Chase their Dreams" in this race, and by sponsoring a TEAM SOSC participant, you will be helping to raise funds for more than 12,500 athletes who are involved in Special Olympics Southern California.

Fundraising Requirements:
We are encouraging each TEAM SOSC member to raise $1000 for Special Olympics Southern California athletes. To help you reach this goal, we are offering fundraising advice, a personalized fundraising Web page (created upon registering), and other fundraising tools (see fundraising tips).

Minimum Due Date:      August 28, 2008

HALF MARATHON ELIGIBILITY

To compete, you must be 14 years of age or older and able to maintain a 16-minute-per-mile pace throughout the race, completing the Half Marathon in three and a half (3.5) hours or less.  Anyone not able to maintain a 16-minute-per-mile pace will be picked up and transported to the Family Reunion area. You can be picked up at any point along the course for not maintaining a 16-minute-per-mile pace.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course for this fantastic event will take runners from the Anaheim Convention Center, the largest exhibit facility on the West Coast, to Disney's California Adventure® Park, celebrating California's storied past and exciting future, to the Disneyland® Park where you will explore the fantastic "lands" of nostalgia, color and delight. Then it is on to the scenic streets of Anaheim, past the Honda Center, home of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, along the Santa Ana Trail overlooking the Santa Ana River, through Angel Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and finally back through Disney's California Adventure® Park for an exciting finish of the Happiest Race on Earth! Ideal weather and a flat-loop course set the stage for an exhilarating Half Marathon designed to shatter personal bests.

All athletes entering the Marathon and Half Marathon must be able to maintain a 16-minute-per-mile pace throughout the race, finishing the Half Marathon in three and a half (3.5) hours or less.
Anyone not able to maintain a 16-minute-per-mile pace will be picked up and transported to the Family Reunion area.  You can be picked up at any point along the course for not maintaining a 16-minute-per-mile pace.

For everyone's safety, baby joggers/strollers, bicycles, inline skates, skateboards, headphones, and animals are prohibited on the course.

PROOF OF TIME  (back to top)

Corral placement is based on proof of time. If you believe you will finish the Half Marathon sub 2:45 hours, proof of time is required.

Acceptable forms of proof of time are either a photocopy of finisher's certificate or a print out of race results. All forms of proof of time must be from a marathon, half marathon or any race 10 miles or longer, after September 1, 2006. If you do not provide proof of time you will be placed in the last start corral.

If you are registered for the Half Marathon and did not provide proof of time, you will need to bring that proof of your estimated finish time to the Runner Relations booths after you pick up your race number and ChampionChip at the Health and Fitness Expo on Friday, August 29 or Saturday, August 30. If no proof of time is provided, you will be placed in the last start corral.
If you are a walker, please correctly mark the registration form so you may be placed in the correct corral.
